Inception Isn’t About Dreams—It’s About Letting Go
Christopher Nolan's 'Inception' is often remembered for its mind-bending visuals, twisting dream layers, and that iconic spinning top. But beneath all of that, there's a quieter, deeper story
The film isn't just a cerebral heist story. It's about a man, Dom Cobb, who's haunted by the memory of his wife, Mal. The dream layers are complex, but Cobb's emotional state is even more complicated. He's not just navigating subconscious landscapes—he's navigating his own unresolved trauma.
Cobb's projection of Mal isn't just an illusion—it's a manifestation of guilt. He blames himself for her death. She appears in his dreams not as a memory, but as a saboteur. She destroys missions, undermines his work, and threatens the real world—because Cobb hasn't let go of what happened.
The deeper the team goes into dreams, the more personal it becomes for Cobb. He's supposed to be planting an idea in someone else's mind—but the truth is, he's confronting the idea that's been stuck in his own: that he's responsible. That he doesn't deserve peace. That he has to live in this self-made purgatory.
The brilliance of 'Inception' isn't the heist. It's the emotional twist: the real mission is Cobb learning to forgive himself.
And that's why the ending matters.
When the top spins and we're left wondering if Cobb is still dreaming—the point isn't whether it falls. The point is that for the first time, Cobb doesn't care. He walks away. He's with his children. He's present.
That's what freedom looks like.
In the end, 'Inception' isn't a film about controlling dreams. It's about releasing control. It's about coming up for air, after years of holding your breath in guilt.
And that's the moment Cobb finally wakes up.
Cultural Vampirism
At its heart, Sinners is about how culture, spirit, and memory get stolen — not always by violence, but by promises too sweet to resist.
Remmick doesn’t just feed on blood. He feeds on what he can’t create himself: the pain, the power, the music stitched into Black Culture. He even wears a twisted kind of empathy, claiming that as an Irishman, he knows what it means to have his people stolen from and beaten down — but what he offers isn't solidarity; it's hunger dressed as understanding.
Sammie's gift, Slim's worn piano keys, the raw cry of the harmonica — these aren't just songs. They're proof that survival has a sound. And that sound can't be bought, bottled, or buried without a fight.
Sammie = the living embodiment of culture at risk.
Slim = the witness, the survivor whose music carries both memory and defiance.
Remmick = the thief who wears a smile while reaching for your soul.
My Final Four Picks Will Piss You Off
March Madness is here - and yeah, these picks may rub you the wrong way. But for some of you maybe not. We Just might Agree. Let's get into it
MEN'S FINAL FOUR PICKS
UNC's making a run. They aren't one of my final four picks but a team I think that has potential to slide in the final four. RJ Davis been on a mission - clutch, veteran, and hungry. They've been battling down the stretch, and that perimeter-heavy, fast-paced style is a problem when they're locked in. Don't act shocked when they torch a few higher seeds. Now to my final four.
Florida VS Michigan State.
Florida? They Niceee. 85+ points per game, the most dangerous offense in the tournament. Walter Clayton Jr. has been cooking.
Michigan State got defense and Izzo, sure, but Florida's gonna run through that.
Houston VS Duke
Houston is tough, but Duke is DIFFERENT this year. Cooper Flagg is that guy. Elite on both ends, and Duke's top 3 in both offense and defense.
Houston got grit - but Duke got killers.
Final? Duke vs. Florida. Flagg takes over. Duke clamps down. Net gets cut.
WOMEN'S FINAL FOUR PICKS
Notre Dame is slept on. Not in my Final Four but if I am wrong it could be about this team. Hannah Hidalgo, Olivia Miles, and Sonia Citron - all bucket-getters. Tempo, defense, experience - they got it all. Now to my Final Four Picks.
UCLA VS USC.
UCLA got size and balance, but JuJu Watkins is Like That FR. USC riding her wave all the way, with Kiki Iriafen and Rayah Marshall holding it down too.
South Carolina VS Texas
South Carolina got that championship DNA. Texas brings the pressure, but experience wins in March. South Carolina advances.
Final? USC vs. South Carolina. JuJu takes the crown.
